Counting words and characters
Free word counter online for essays, captions, and meta descriptions. The counter computes totals as you type. Words are separated by whitespace; characters use grapheme segmentation, so combined visible characters can count as one.

Output behavior and limits
This is not linguistic word segmentation. Languages written without spaces and different character-counting conventions can give totals that differ from another editor or platform.
For a submission limit, compare against the receiving platform’s counter. Keep the original text: counting does not rewrite it.
