Reducing encoded image bytes
Compress image online when an email or portal rejects a large photo. Compression tries candidates in the detected source format and chooses a smaller result where possible. Savings depend on the image; an already compact file can return an error stating that no reduction was possible.
- Step 1
Use the workspace
Add image files, choose Compress, then compare the returned file size and preview. A no-reduction error means that this operation found no smaller candidate in the same format.
Output behavior and limits
JPEG candidates are encoded at quality 70, 62 and 55, which can change texture and edges. PNG candidates are optimized losslessly. This tool does not offer a manual quality slider—inspect the preview instead of assuming a fixed percentage reduction.
Inspect fine text and gradients before replacing an original. Compare the actual downloaded bytes. Pair with Resize Image when dimensions are larger than the display size you need.
Before replacing your original
- This operation uploads to the processing server. Clear results after downloading; deletion requests can fail and scheduled cleanup depends on the server running.
Compression: verified sample
These files were generated with the server functions used by the tool. Measurements describe this synthetic sample only. Compare edges and lettering before replacing an original.
