Counting visible characters
Characters are counted with Intl.Segmenter grapheme segmentation; the counter can exclude whitespace. Words are split on whitespace rather than linguistic boundaries.
Output behavior and limits
A joined emoji can be one visible character despite using several Unicode code points. Platforms that count bytes or UTF-16 units can disagree.
Paste a short sample containing spaces, a line break and an emoji, then compare with the destination's counter before submitting a length-limited message.
