Convert PNG to JPG with a white background
If an upload form accepts JPG but your image is a PNG, converting changes the file format. It also removes transparency: JPG stores a color for every pixel. HSQ Tools blends transparent PNG pixels onto white, keeps the image dimensions and saves a JPG at a fixed encoder quality setting of 92.

This sample was converted with the same image service used by the tool. Both files are 480 × 300 pixels. The checkerboard shows the transparent source background; the JPG has a solid white background.

JPEG compression can change colors and edges. This simple graphic produces a larger JPG than its source; a format conversion does not guarantee a smaller file.
What happens to transparent edges?
Fully transparent pixels become white. Partly transparent pixels, such as soft shadows and antialiased edges, blend with white. If you later place that JPG on a dark background, the white rectangle and lighter edges remain. Keep the original PNG when you need a cutout or logo on several backgrounds.
Does PNG to JPG make a smaller file?
Sometimes, especially for photos, but not for every image. Our downloadable 480 × 300 sample is 1,757 bytes as PNG and 8,091 bytes as JPG. A flat graphic is efficient as PNG; JPEG compression does not guarantee a smaller output. These figures describe this sample, not a general compression ratio.
Prepare an image for an upload form
- Read the form's accepted formats, maximum file size and required dimensions.
- In Image Converter, choose From PNG and To JPG if the form requires JPG, then preview the output for readable text and correct colors.
- If dimensions are too large, use Image Resizer. If the file is still too large, try Image Compressor.
- Download the final file and check its size before uploading. Changing .png to .jpg in the filename is not a conversion.
Quality and privacy before converting
JPEG is lossy, so keep an original for future edits. The converter uploads files to a server; it is not a browser-only conversion. Temporary source deletion is attempted after processing. Use the result list's delete action when finished. Leaving the page requests result deletion, but interrupted connections can prevent cleanup.
For AVIF, WebP or other sources, use the same Image Converter and change the From/To formats. Browse Image Tools for resize, compress, crop and editing.
